iPad 2 vs iPad 1 Review or Just Wait for iPad 3

Last week the iPad 2 from Apple launched here in the US. Ordering the iPad 2 online started at 4 AM eastern time. By 6 am delivery estimation was already changed to 3 weeks out.  There was no pre-ordering and store’s would sell them starting at 5 PM. These little restrictions made me believe that there is not enough stock to meet the anticipated demand. And guess what. I think I was right. But do you really need the iPad 2 if you already have an iPad 1?

I was able to get my hands on a 32 GB white iPad 2 from my neighbor who was “lucky” enough that his young daughter (almost 2) woke him up at the same time the online ordering started.

The iPad 2 feels really well in your hands. It still gives you enough weight to feel that you have a great piece of technology. The slimness compared to the iPad 2 is very noticeable compared to the iPad 1. The added slim cover with the magnets is ignominious and works like a charm. The added camera’s is something extra but not something to write home about. The front camera is only 0.3 mega pixels and the camera on the back is only 2 mega pixels. And the front camera only works with face time and not with any other chat and video apps. So what new with the operating system? Besides a new processor to make things faster on the iPad 2 nothing else is different compared to the iPad 1. The user experience is pretty much the same.

If you already own an iPad 1 and can sell it for a decent price I could recommend upgrading to the iPad 2 if you really want to. However I personally am going to wait for the iPad 3 in which I hope to have better camera’s and the retina display just like the iPhone 4 has right now.

If you are not an iPad owner yet, yes this will be a great asset.
